An openly gay suburbanite who was recently arrested and charged with three counts of battery following an incident at a Bartlett establishment claims he was the one who was actually assaulted.
According to Bartlett Police Department reports filed with the Circuit Court of Cook County, Brian Pilkington of Elgin was charged with three counts of misdemeanor battery against three women Aug. 8 at Bartlett’s La Dolce Vita.
However, Windy City Times was contacted by Pilkington and his roommate Sean Pelka (who, along with his girlfriend, witnessed the incident), and both claim that a woman made anti-gay comments toward Pilkington such as ‘What, do you have AIDS?’ and derogatory statements regarding his sexual orientation. Pilkington also claims his attacker allegedly pushed him toward the exit of the establishment, where he was then attacked by a group of her friends.
Pilkington is being represented by local attorney Jon Erickson. ‘We are certainly investigating any misconduct on the part of the Bartlett police and any misconduct on the part of any staff members at the establishment,’ Erickson said.
