A local coalition of health advocates and providers, Chicago Second Wind, recently started distributing free “Quit Kits” to help individuals who would like to quit smoking.
The kits are available at multiple distribution centers until supplies last. Distribution centers within the LGBT community include the Brown Elephant Resale Shop, 5404 N. Clark; Affinity Community Services, 5650 S. Woodlawn; Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted; and Howard Brown Health Center, 4025 N. Sheridan.
The kits include tips, support information, and nicotine replacement samples donated by the Chicago Department of Public Health.
In addition to distributing the kits, the Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago is holding a free seven-week smoking cessation class starting Thurs., Jan. 24. Call 312-243-2000 or log onto www.lungchicago.org.
