The Morrison-Shearer Foundation will host ‘The Dances of Sybil Shearer on Film’ Wed., March 5, 6-7:30 p.m. at the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies, 610 S. Michigan.
This free public screening of dance footage of the legendary dancer will coincide with Within This Thicket, the first volume of Without Wings the Way is Steep, a three-part autobiography of Shearer (1912-2005).
The screening will include footage of Shearer dancing on the grounds of her Northbrook-based home and studio, as shot by her artistic collaborator, Helen Balfour Morrison (1901-1984). Throughout the ’30s and ’40s, Morrison photographed more than 100 notables, including Helen Hayes; Robert Frost; Amelia Earhart; and Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas.
Attendees will be able to purchase copies of the book on site at an introductory discount price. After the event, books will be available through the Morrison-Shearer Foundation; see 847-291-9161 or visit www.morrisonshearer.org.
