Bo Overton, the coach of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) team Chicago Sky, resigned Wed., March 12, The Chicago Tribune reported.
The team’s online message board, www.ChicagoSkyTalk.net, contained several messages alleging Overton sexually harassed at least one player. (One, dated Fri., March 7, stated, ‘I do not know why this has not surfaced yet, but last season Bo Overton made several attempts to be as physical with his athletes as they are with Basketball. This was brought to the attention of the Sky staff at the end of last season, and very little has been done.’) Sky President and CEO Margaret Stender posted a message Mon., March 20, asking those who knew anything to ‘share any evidence of any acts of sexual harassment’ and added that ‘ [t] he Chicago Sky and I personally are fully committed to ensuring a safe and positive environment for our players as well as ensuring due process.’
Stender indicated to the Tribune that she took the Internet allegations seriously but that they did not directly lead to Overton’s resignation.
Steve Key, an assistant coach, has been named general manager and head coach.
