Australian Michelle Ferris—one of cycling’s all-time sprint stars, with multiple world and Olympic medals to her credit—has been selected by the Federation of Gay Games (FGG) to be the newest Gay Games ambassador, according to an organizational press release.

Ambassadors are prominent individuals who support the Gay Games. Ferris now joins a roster that includes, among others, Sir Elton John; former National Basketball Association player John Amaechi; South African Olympic beach volleyball player Leigh-Ann Naidoo; former National Football League players David Kopay and Esera Tuaolo; and actors Judith Light and Amanda Bearse.

Gay Games VIII will take place July 31-Aug. 7, 2010.
