Judith Krug, a director of the Chicago-based American Library Association and a founder of its Banned Books Week, died April 11 in Evanston of stomach cancer, according to the Denver Post. She was 69.

Krug was the executive director of the Freedom to Read Foundation and director of the Office for Intellectual Freedom of the American Library Association for over 40 years, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Services were held at Beth Emet Synagogue, 1224 Dempster, Evanston, on April 14. In lieu of flowers,memorial contributions may be made to the Freedom to Read Foundation, 50 E. Huron, Chicago, Ill., 60611, or www.ftrf.org.
