Chicago Public Schools (CPS) CEO Ron Huberman has been named to Out Magazine’s third annual “Power 50” list, coming in at #39.
Huberman worked as Mayor Richard Daley’s chief of staff for two years before he was appointed head of the Chicago Transit Authority in 2007. He became head of CPS earlier this year, replacing Arne Duncan, who is President Barack Obama’s secretary of education. Huberman’s sexuality was considered an open secret all along, but he officially came out this year in the Chicago Sun-Times.
U.S. Congressman Barney Frank tops the list, with others including talk-show host Rachel Maddow (#4), conservative Web personality Matt Drudge (#6), Milk director Gus Van Sant (#14), financial expert Suzi Orman (#22), fashion designer Tom Ford (#38) and Project Runway’s Tim Gunn (#45).
The criteria used to rank the individuals included political clout, cultural resonance, individual wealth and current personal profile.
