Living with Pride, the embattled LGBT sober living space, received an extension on a zoning appeal that will determine whether the house can stay in its current location in North Center. At a meeting of the Zoning Commission July 17 at City Hall, a new hearing was set for Aug. 21. The extension was granted to Living with Pride over the objections of some of its neighbors, a group of whom attended the hearing.
At issue is whether, as a recovery space for people who struggle with substance abuse problems, Living with Pride is already correctly zoned (as a “community group home”), or would have to re-zoned (as a “transitional” residence). If the appeal fails, it is unlikely that Living with Pride would be able to successfully apply for the proper permit, given its contentious relationship with neighbors and 47th Ward Alderman Eugene Schulter.
More information on the house can be found at its Web site www.livingwithpride.org.
