The Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization (IVI-IPO) and board member Aviva Patt have filed a complaint in Cook County Court, with the goal of overturning the city’s privatization of parking meters, according to an organizational press release.

The suit seeks to have the court void the contract between the City of Chicago and Chicago Parking Meters, LLC. The complaint alleges that said contract is illegal because, among other things, “the city did not have authority to lease city streets and that the city cannot delegate police functions (parking enforcement) to a private company.”
