Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church will host its annual Reconciling Service Sunday, Oct. 11, at 10:30 a.m.

The theme of this year’s service is The Great Cloud of Witnesses, and the Reconciling Congregation will present the first annual Bruce Scott Award posthumously to Scott’s longtime partner, Larry Bloom.

Scott was a government employee in Washington, D.C., in the ’50s during the McCarthy investigations, when gay and lesbian workers were fired from their jobs because they were considered risks to national security. Scott—who joined the Mattachine Society—sued the government and won in 1965.

The church is located at 405 S. Euclid in Oak Park; see www.euclidumc.org.
