United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, 560 W. Lake, invited educators, program facilitators and other interested parties to the “HIV: Hey, It’s Viral!” forum on Oct. 22. The event included a preview of the twenty-minute Beyondmedia documentary production that addresses serious HIV facts geared towards educating at-risk youth ranging from ages 12-18.
The event also included a panel with film collaborators Salome Chasnoff (Beyondmedia educator), Joe Hollendoner (director of the Broadway Youth Center for Howard Brown Health Center) and Sara Kerastas (education program director for About Face Theatre). The discussion centered around the need to implement a more modernized sex education curriculum (including the documentary) into Chicago Public Schools.
