Bebe Zahara Benet, the winner of the first season of Logo’s reality competition RuPaul’s Drag Race, has released the music video for her debut single, “I’m the Sh*t” from her soon-to-be-released album, Cameroon, according to a press release. Benet (legal name: Nea Marshall Kudi) said, “‘I’m the Sh*t’ is an empowering song that encourages self-worth. We are all The Sh*t in our own unique way. We only need to discover our fabulousness and release it so that everyone can appreciate it.”
Following his charged performance on ABC’s American Music Awards Nov. 22, Adam Lambert has been barred from appearing on two other network prograams, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, Advocate.com reported. On his Twitter page, Lambert said that ABC had canceled his appearances, but to blame the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) instead of the network. An FCC spokeswoman declined to comment.
American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi said that she understands why ABC has banned Adam Lambert from three programs after his American Music Awards performance, according to E! Online. “We’re living in a pretty bad economic time, so they have to do what they have to do to keep their advertisers,” DioGuardi said. “Networks are doing what they think their viewers want and don’t want, so it’s just budgetary.” However, she added that she didn’t see anything wrong with Lambert’s performance.
It will be Beyoncé vs. Lady Gaga at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. Beyoncé led with 10 nominations, while Lady Gaga (who just last year performed at the Gay Idol finals), got five nods. Taylor Swift received eight nominations while the Black Eyed Peas, Maxwell and Kanye West got six nods each; however, Whitney Houston was shut out. According to MTV.com, one of the most intriguing match-ups is for best electronic/dance album; the nominees are Gaga, Crystal Method, LMFAO, David Guetta (“When Love Takes Over”) and Pet Shop Boys.
Out British actor Rupert Everett is urging other gay actors to stay in the closet. According to HotMommaGossip.com, Everett, 50—who has been openly gay for more than two decades—told the Daily Mail, “Honestly, I would not advise any actor, if he was really thinking of his career, to come out. … It’s not that advisable. And it’s not very easy.” However, Everett admitted that being out probably means he’s happier than most of his closeted peers.
Sultry actress Eva Mendes has admitted to having a crush on fellow thespian Kate Winslet, according to SheWired.com. Mendes told The Sun, “I adore Kate Winslet—I completely idolize her and she is so beautiful. She’s done nudity in so many of her films yet she is not known for that because she is known for her work and she goes there as an actress. I have never met her and I’m thinking maybe its time to write her a love letter.”
Actor Kelsey Grammer is going gay. According to PerezHilton.com, the actor best known for being Frasier Crane on the TV series Cheers and Frasier is heading to Broadway next spring to star in La Cage aux Folles. The musical is a revival of the 1983 Jerry Herman-Harvey Fierstein original, and will also feature the UK’s star, Douglas Hodge. The show will open April 18 at Manhattan’s Langacre Theatre.
Glee’s McKinley High may get a visit from a second Broadway star. Idina Menzel, the original green witch from Wicked, has said that “she would love [to guest star on Glee],” according to husband Taye Diggs, People.com reported. Menzel’s Wicked co-star, Kristin Chenoweth, has already been on Glee. Diggs, who praised the quality of singing and dancing on the show, added that series star Lea Michele (who originated the role of Wendia in the Broadway play Spring Awakening) and Menzel are “fans of each other.”
Gay brothers Dan and Sam McMillen finished as runners-up in the latest chapter of TV’s The Amazing Race, according to People magazine. Sam, 23, said, “We got to see the world and we got to do it together,” as he and Dan, 21, successfully ran “Operation Don’t Kill Each Other.” San Diego, Calif.-based couple Meghan Rickey and Cheyne Whitney won the CBS show’s 15th installment.
