To mark World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, Howard Brown Health Center, 4025 N. Sheridan, held a variety of forums, such as “HIV and the Latino Community” (presented by Julio Maldonado), “The Intersection of HIV and Mental Health” (by Michael McFadden) and “What Vaginas Want” (by Christina Santiago).
Among other things, McFadden discussed the challenges HIV-positive people may face regarding mental health, such as social stigma and the side effects of HIV medication. The center also held a candlelight vigil at the Brown Elephant resale shop in Oak Park.
