In response to a controversial comment former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee made, the Hearty Boys (Steve McDonagh and Dan Smith) and U.S. Congressman Mike Quigley, D-Ill., held a “Families Valued” event June 7 at the Boys’ restaurant, Hearty. Recently, Huckabee compared gay adoption to incest and commented, “Children are not puppies.” After that remark, McDonagh and Smith—who have a 4-year-old son, Nate—sent a letter to Huckabee inviting them to the event.
