Pro-LGBT activists plan to stage a protest at the Uptown Target store, 4466 N. Broadway, on Saturday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m.

Target has been in the center of a firestorm since it was discovered that the corporation—previously seen as gay-friendly—had donated $100,000 in cash and $50,000 in in-kind contributions to MN Forward, a business community-backed political action group. MN Forward is supporting Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, a state rep who is against marriage equality and leveling the playing field for LGBTs in areas of discrimination in housing, the workplace, immigration and healthcare.

On Aug. 5, Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel sent a letter to his employees apologizing for the action.
