Frost/Nixon, Timeline Theatre, through Oct. 10. Fine performances capture the private cat-and-mouse game between the disgraced ex-President and the brash Brit interviewer that made TV history in 1977. Peter Morgan’s play is a clever audience-pleaser. JA
Hot Mikado, Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook, through Oct. 3. Director/choreographer/co-adaptor David Bell serves up an extravaganza of musical comedy silliness and sizzling choreography complete with jazzy 1940s arrangements of Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic 1885 operetta. SCM
Theories of the Sun, Sideshow Theatre Company, through Oct. 3. Kathleen Akerley’s dissertation on life and death evokes the wistful romance of E.T.A. Hoffmann—with a droll Tennessee Williams and Tom Stoppard on hand to anchor us when the air gets thin. MSB
The Weir, Seanachaà Theatre Company at Irish American Heritage Center, extended through Oct. 17. A buncha pub regulars recounting creepy yarns might not promise an exciting time, but the Seanachaà ensemble shows us why Conor McPherson’s play is so popular with U.S. audiences. MSB
