Inspired by Dan Savage’s launch of the “It Gets Better” YouTube channel for LGBT teens who deal with bullies, Windy City Times is seeking essays from people who have been at very low points—where they have considered or even attempted suicide—but realized that “it gets better.”

The essays should be 500-1,000 words, and are due Wed., Oct. 6. Send to editor@windycitytimes.com

The group Truth Wins Out has issued a release condemning an anti-gay attitude that led to three teen suicides in September. In Houston, Texas, the parents of eighth-grader Asher Brown have said that their son shot himself in the head after constantly being harassed at Hamilton Middle School, according to an Advocate.com item.

Californian Seth Walsh and Billy Lucas, from Greensburg, Ind., also committed suicide because of anti-gay bullying.
