There will certainly be plenty of campy laughs in Commonwealth Theatre Company’s Church Girls, Umatilla USA, The Musical, since it features a bunch of guys portraying the “ladies” of Umatilla Second Christian church Women’s Auxiliary in a special Mother’s Day Pageant talent show. But the show’s authors also promise to explore how religion is often manipulated to achieve more self-centered personal goals. Church Girls, Umatilla USA, The Musical plays through Nov. 21 at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont. Performances are 8:15 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $20-$25; call 773-327-5252 or visit www.stage773.org. Photo of the cast courtesy of Commonwealth Theatre Company
