The three-member Chicago Board of Election Commissioners unanimously voted Dec. 23 to keep mayoral candidate Rahm Emanuel on the ballot, according to the Chicago Tribune. The decision came hours after hearing officer Joe Morris recommended that the board do so.
Richard Cowen, an elections commissioner, said, “It was a difficult case to manage. For me, it was not a difficult case to decide.” Emanuel said he was “very pleased” with the result.
However, this may not be the end of the situation for Emanuel. The losing objectors have a week to appeal the board’s decision to the Cook County Circuit Court—and the case could end up in the state supreme court.
