The now more popular than ever actress Betty White (originally from Oak Park) strutted into Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Skokie this past weekend. Some fans arrived as early as 4 a.m. on Saturday morning to meet and have her memoir signed, entitled If You Ask Me (And of Course You Won’t). One of the busiest ladies in show business made a quick stop for an hour and a half at 2 p.m. that day before flying on to more appearances. The star with a long television career, from The Mary Tyler Moore Show to the current Hot in Cleveland, had the crowd lined up around the bookshelves.
The book is full of tidbits such as her turning down the film As Good As It Gets because of the treatment of a dog and the behind-the-scenes of her popular appearances, such as the Saturday Night Live hosting gig that won her a seventh Emmy Award. White was perky from the beginning, chatting with people and pleasantly proving why this country continues to be in love with the last surviving Golden Girl.
