Illinois transgender policy organization Illinois Gender Advocates (IGA) is under new leadership after Dec. 6 elections confirmed a new chair and vice-chair for the group.

Jubi Dutcher, former vice-chair of IGA went unopposed for the position of chair while Center on Halsted’s transgender liaison June LaTrobe won an unchallenged seat for vice-chair.

Former IGA Chair Candice Hart announced that she was stepping down earlier in the year.

According to LaTrobe, the organization will focus its attention on three policy areas this year. IGA is aiming to add gender identity protections to current Illinois hate crime law, update the vital records act to allow transgender people to more easily change their birth certificates and fight for medical insurance for transition-related procedures.

LaTrobe said she will also continue in her role as the director of public policy for IGA.

The organization maintains two volunteer officer positions. Marsha Jackson will continue as IGA’s treasurer while the position of secretary is currently vacant.

IGA has a membership of approximately 40 paid members. Elections for the organization are held annually.
