Center on Halsted has announced that Judy Shepard will serve as keynote speaker at this year’s H.E.R. (Health Education & Recreation) Day Saturday, March 10.
H.E.R. Day is the center’s marquee women’s event empowering female-identified individuals to live healthier, happier lives through a full of day of events, workshops and special programs.
In October 1998, Judy and Dennis Shepard lost their 21-year-old son, Matthew, to a murder motivated by anti-gay hate. Determined to prevent others from suffering their son’s fate, Judy and Dennis decided to turn their grief into action and established the Matthew Shepard Foundation, dedicated to working toward the causes championed by Matthew during his life: social justice, diversity awareness and education, and equality for LGBT people.
The keynote address will take place at 11 a.m., with programs and events beginning at 12 p.m. See www.CenterOnHalsted.org.
