‘Spring into Action’ culinary event against domestic violence
The Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network (The Network) will host its 2012 “Chicago Chefs Spring Into Action” benefit Thursday, March 22, at the Renaissance Blackstone Hotel, 636 S. Michigan Ave., 6-9 p.m.
Alpana Singh, master sommelier and host of the WTTW now Check Please, will be mistress of ceremonies. Among the many participating chefs are Giuseppe Tentori & Jessica Carney, GT Fish & Oyster; Koren Grieveson of avec; Celeste Zeccola of Bittersweet Pastry Shop; Ryan Poli of Tavernita; and Terry Opalek and Michael Frontier of Terry’s Toffee.
There will also be live and silent auctions (led by John Walcher of Leslie Hindman Auctioneers) as well as unique cocktails.

In town for the International Housewares Show (March 10-13), celebrity chef Curtis Stone went to Paris Club March 11 to demonstrate Curtis Stone Kitchen Solutions. Eat to the Beat
The Harris Theater’s celebrated Eat to the Beat $5 lunchtime performance series continues with a “Rising Star Spring Series” featuring three different music and dance performances.
—The next generation of brilliant dancers, actors and vocalists from ChiArts, Chicago’s “own version of Fame” (WBEZ), will take the stage of the Harris Thursday, March 22, at 12 p.m., performing excerpts from the program’s new version of the Carnival of the Animals ballet.
—Following its Chicago debut on last season’s Eat to the Beat series, Chicago’s most accomplished young dancers from the Chicago Academy for the Arts Repertory Dance Company return Thursday, May 31, at 12 p.m., under the direction of Company Artistic Director Randy Duncan.
Patrons are encouraged to enjoy their lunch during the Eat to the Beat performances, and food will be available for purchase from Chicago’s finest food trucks located on-site during performances outside the theater on Lower Randolph Drive.
Individual performance tickets are available for $5 each, and patrons can attend all three remaining Eat to the Beat performances for only $10.
