Chicago’s Sarah Siddons Society honored Barbara Cook July 16 at its annual gala celebration at the Ritz Carlton.

Cook is the 60th recipient of this award that has been given to such luminaries as Helen Hayes, Bette Davis, Lauren Bacall, Angela Lansbury, Julie Harris, Liza Minnelli, Julie Andrews, Bernadette Peters and Patti LuPone, among others. Cook performed a concert with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra the day before the awards ceremony at Ravinia.

The Sarah Siddons Society was founded by a group of devoted Chicago theatergoers inspired by the film All About Eve, which featured a fictitious Sarah Siddons Society presenting an annual award to a celebrated actress. Photo of Cook courtesy of the Sarah Siddons Society
