Charles I. Hughes, 88, longtime resident of the Admiral at the Lake, native of Phoenix, New York, passed away November 30, 2012.

Preceded in death by Dale Barber, his partner of 40 years, and parents Jay D. Hughesand Mary Margaret Abell Hughes.

During his stint in the U.S. Navy, Charles was based in Hiroshima shortly after it was bombed, an experience that forever changed him and inspired him to become a lifelong activist for peace. He was a member of the Jane Adams Senior Caucus, a leader in the Lakeview Action Coalition, and was nominated into the City of Chicago Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. He was also a retired Cook County employee and AFSCME member.

A memorial service is being held Saturday, January 12, 2013, 1pm, at Wellington Avenue United Church of Christ, 615 West Wellington Avenue, Chicago, IL 60657, (773) 935-0642.
