LGBT couples waiting to marry in Illinois may need to wait longer.
Multiple sources and media reports suggest that the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act, which would bring equal marriage to the state, is short the 60 House votes it needs to pass. Those reports remain unconfirmed, however.
Sponsors have until the day’s end to pass the bill. Otherwise, it will not see action until at least this fall.
The measure has already cleared the Senate. House sponsor Greg Harris previously told Windy City Times that he would “absolutely” call for a vote and that the bill would pass.
While signs indicate that may not be the case, no reports of the vote shortage have been confirmed. Windy City Times will continue to update as details become available.
