Over Labor Day weekend North Coast Music Festival descended upon Union Park for three days with five stages, numerous food and merchandise booths, along with close to 50,000 attendees.
For the fourth year the festival brought a variety of acts, this time with headliners Wu-Tang Clan, Passion Pit, and Afrojack. Dance fanatics migrated from stage to stage to see light shows from musicians such as Paper Diamonds, A-Trak and Lotus. There were many highlights over the three days, from Nas constantly moving with his hip-hop beats to Capital Cities returning to the stage to play a condensed version of their hit single before being evacuated.
There were two evacuations—one on Friday and one Sunday—because of rain, testing the crowd’s patience and creating massive lines to re-enter.
Fans rolled with the punches as the two-hour thunderstorm delay on Friday made organizers extend the festival an hour later.
The members of Passion Pit had to make a last-minute DJ set when their equipment was destroyed by water.
There were some drug-induced antics by local party people but nothing to compare this music festival to New York’s Electric Zoo that was partially cancelled on the same weekend because of two casualties.
Attendees of North Coast kept their hands in the air celebrating until the last moment of summer’s last weekend.
