Sunday, June 1, marks the first day of marriage equality throughout the state of Illinois. To recognize this historic day, Unity in Chicago will host “Married in Unity,” an all-inclusive, non-denominational group wedding ceremony in the Unity garden on the church grounds at 1925 W. Thome Ave.
The garden will be open to the public at 4 p.m., with the ceremony commencing at 5 p.m.
Unity in Chicago’s Senior Minister, Rev. Heidi Alfrey will officiate the ceremony for all who wish to participate, including:
—same- and opposite-sex couples;
—couples who would like to express their commitment without legal documentation; and
—married couples who would like to renew their vows.
The ceremony will be free of charge for any couple who wishes to participate. All couples and witnesses need to register online at UnityChicago.org.
