Earl McDonald, 80, of Chicago and Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away suddenly on July 31.
He was a former member of the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus, a group he loved, and a founding member of the NewTown Writers. He was a member of the Chicago Prime Timers and SAGE. He was known for his fine tenor voice and the parties he loved to throw. He was fluent in French and enjoyed opportunities to speak la belle langue.
All his life, Earl loved music, especially opera, and considered himself an “opera queen.” He helped found the Atlanta Opera Guild during the time he lived in that city. He sang with various choruses in Chattanooga, such as St. Peter and Paul’s, and in Chicago, as noted, with the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus. He would sing when any opportunity presented itself.
Earl was also known for the broaches he loved wearing. He was great friend who enjoyed doing for others. He loved giving gifts to family and friends. He will be remembered for his talent, sense of humor and kindness.
He is survived by his companion of 45 years, Randy Gresham; his brother, Darrell; and several generations of family in Chattanooga.
