The entertainment/retail/residential complex NewCity has opened at 1457 N. Halsted St., in Lincoln Park.

NewCity—which encompasses 360,000 square feet of retail space—includes establishments such as King’s Bowl/Max & Leo’s, the 14-screen Arclight Cinemas, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Nando’s PERi-PERi restaurant, Mariano’s Fresh Market and Adobe Gilas, among other retailers.

A VIP sneak preview, held Oct. 29, revealed many details about the businesses, such as Arclight employing a Dolby Atmos sound system and instituting rules involving no talking and no late arrivals; and King’s sporting a 222-foot bar as well as a private room (for up to 36 people) with four lanes.

A more public grand opening took place Oct. 30-Nov. 1, with everything from an appearance from Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to performances by the Jesse White Tumblers and others.
