Franklyn Roger Margason, 81, “Roger”, of Lakeview, formerly of Los Angeles, author and former editor in the gay press, died Nov. 1, 2015 after a brief illness.

After serving in the U.S. Navy and graduating from Northern Illinois University, Roger enjoyed a long career working in the gay press where he served as editor of “Inches” magazine and worked for publishing houses. After retirement, he moved to Chicago and began writing gay and supernatural mysteries under the name “Dorien Grey,” eventually publishing 25 books, including such titles as “The Butcher’s Son,” “The Good Cop,” and “His Name Is John.” The series turned out to be a wild success, and Roger had many followers. He would often go into Unabridged Bookstore on Broadway to autograph copies.

He is survived by his faithful companion Spirit the Siamese cat.
