The 2016 edition of the Andersonville Midsommarfest kicked the season into high gear with three days filled with more than 70 attractions.

The festival, which celebrates Swedish-American history, has managed to retain its flavor while finding ways to appeal to everyone. The annual festival, which took place June 10-12 between Catalpa and Foster avenues along Clark Street, benefits the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and Eco-Andersonville.

The festival line-up included cover bands, yoga instruction, craft-making, drag performances, dog training and pet activities, dance parties, dance performances, live original musical performances and a cheering squad.

Although it hit more than 90 degrees on June 11, the weather didn’t stop festivalgoers from enjoying a day spotlighted by cheering squad The Chicago Spirit Brigade, sets from gutbucket soul outfit Chi Town Soul, the pre-adolescent rock band Livewire, local favorites The Joans and a host of other attractions. June 12 had cooler temperatures but a large turnout as well.

The festival, which Star Events presented, was co-sponsored by Swedish Covenant Hospital, Orange Shoe Personal Fitness, Hamburger Marys Bar and Grille, The Swedish American Museum, Replay Bar, Bud Lights and Alamo Shoes.
