Leonard Bernstein (2015 Legacy Walk Inductee) was among the first conductors born and educated in the United States to receive worldwide acclaim. He was best known to the public as the longtime music director of the New York Philharmonic; for conducting concerts by many of the world’s leading orchestras; and for writing the music for Candide, On the Town, and West Side Story — his most enduring work.

The Legacy Project will celebrate the 98th Birthday of Maestro Leonard Bernstein as a part of the Legacy LIVE Series. On Thursday Aug. 25 there will be a special screening of the multi-Oscar-winning West Side Story — one of the greatest movie musicals ever filmed. This special free outdoor “movie-in-the-park” screening is brought to you by the Legacy Project, Center on Halsted, and the Northalsted Business Alliance in cooperation with presenting partner the Queer Film Society as part of the popular “Legacy LIVE Series.” It will take place in Gill Park on Sheridan and Broadway, beginning at 7:30pm. Grab a blanket.
