He worked with Mayor Richard Daley to help design public school buildings in Chicago. He served as a minister at The Servant Catholic Community of Greater Chicago and also as a deacon of Good Shepherd Parish Metropolitan Community Church. He provided pastoral care to patients at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center’s AIDS ward and served as a eucharistic minister there. He was a volunteer with TPAN, helping HIV-positive patients. He was also a volunteer at the Theosophical Society Library; a member of the Canoe Club in Iowa; and a HAM Radio Operator. He loved to sail his boat, The Red Baron, all over Lake Michigan. He also enjoyed snow skiing.
He is survived by his partner-in-life, Charles Boerner of Batavia; six cousins (two in the U.S. and four in Colombia; and one god-son, Felipe Otalora in California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Agusta Acosta.
A service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017 beginning at 11 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, 222 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia. For further inforation, call Moss Funeral Home at 630-879-7900.
