A group of people, on Aug. 30, honored the life and legacy of AIDS activist/political cartoonist Danny Sotomayor on what would have been his 59th birthday.

Sotomayor was born on Aug. 30, 1958, and died of AIDS at age 33 on Feb. 5, 1992. He grew up in the Humboldt Park area of Chicago, and obtained a degree in graphic arts from Columbia College. His partner was Scott McPherson (author of the acclaimed play Marvin’s Room).
