A woman is in custody after an Oct. 16 attack at the Wabash and Washington ‘L’ platform left an 81-year-old man in intensive care.

“A female is in custody and charges are pending,” according to Chicago Police Department spokesperson P.O. Sweeney, who added that more information would be released once charges were approved. The assailant was characterized as male in the initial CPD release.

According to multiple reports, the assailant stole the man’s phone at about 9:25 p.m. on Oct. 16. The two got into a fight that resulted in the victim falling down the stairs. He was taken to the hospital where he has been treated for bleeding of the brain, a cut to the head, swelling and bruises. Video footage was released that showed both the fight and the assailant leaving after the victim’s fall.
