Dear Editor/Director,
I’m sure I’m not alone in this. I can’t be. I’m hurt. I’m offended. I’m outraged. I’m disgusted.
I heard the McCaskey family—who own the Chicago Bears—just gave a large donation to Jeanne Ives, the only anti-gay candidate in the governor’s race in Illinois. Ives says, and I quote, “They’re [gay couples] trying to weasel their way into acceptability so that they can start to push their agenda down into the schools, because this gives them some sort of acceptability.” We are weasels, are we? We are things?
Ives also said full out that when a gay couple has a child, “either in an adoptive nature or in a biological nature,” the child is an object of desire rather than the result of a matrimony. What in the hell does that even mean? I thought the LGBTQ movement was making progress. I don’t think we’ve made any progress when I hear people like Ives open their stupid hateful mouths. …
How could the Chicago Bears owners be involved in this? How can I go to another Bears game if this is what the McCaskeys support and what they believe in?
As a group, we should be sending a message. As a group, we should #BoycottTheBears.
