Steppenwolf Theatre Company has announced that Obie-, Helen Hayes- and NAACP Award-winning actress/playwright Danai Gurira as the honoree at the 10th annual Steppenwolf Women in the Arts fundraising luncheon on Monday, Dec. 10, at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel, 221 N. Columbus Dr., at 12 p.m.

Gurira will join Steppenwolf Artistic Director Anna D. Shapiro for a conversation about her on-stage and on-screen acting career, award-winning plays and her impact as a leader in her industry.

She is best known for her roles of Michonne on AMC’s The Walking Dead, and Okoye in the films Marvel’s Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. Upcoming projects include Gurira adapting Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s book Americanah into a miniseries; also, her play The Convert will be staged at the Young Vic theatre in London in December.
