Chicago, Illinois- December 3, 2018—Affinity Community Services, is hosting their annual kick-off event, Burning Bowl 2019. The theme this year is: Ever ours: Resisting with Purpose to Thrive in the New Year. As always, the event will highlight a community “burn” as a symbolic way of leaving behind negativity in order to confidently move into the future. This year, Affinity will celebrate the work completed in 2018, as well as set goals to build community and unity together.
Affinity is excited to honor Kim Hunt with the Robbie Smith award. The Barbara “Robbie” Smith Award of Excellence is given to someone who exemplifies leadership, perseverance, strength, compassion, and integrity. “Kim has been a model of how to intersect the LGBTQ+ movement and racial justice movements in Chicago, says Imani Rupert-Gordon, executive director of Affinity Com-munity Services. Kim makes our movement stronger, and makes us all better. It is an absolute honor to work in coalition with her”.
