The Chicago History Museum will host its annual “Out at CHM” events—which focus on the LGBTQ community—on March 27, April 24 and June 12. The events are as follows:
—Wed., March 27: How It’s Written—Author and historian Owen Keehnen will moderate a discussion that explore the nonlinear story of LGBTQIA people in Chicago and beyond from eras during which little was recorded besides police records and lurid headlines. Ria Brodell, visual artist and author of Butch Heroes; and Jim Elledge, professor and author of The Boys of Fairy Town, will discuss the unique challenges or researching pre-Stonewall history.
—Wed., April 24: Out of This World—This event will explore the history of LGBTQ themes in speculative fiction (science fiction, comics, and fantasy), a genre that gives authors and readers the freedom to imagine societies that are different from real-life cultures.
