Joel Hall Dancers & Center (JHDC) will hold two free events to honor the 70th birthday of Artistic Director Emeritus Joel Hall.

—There will be a master class and legacy event Friday, April 19, 7:30-9 p.m., at the Logan Center for the Arts’ Performance Hall, 915 E. 60th St. There will be a video presentation and moderated conversation in celebration of Hall’s extensive contributions to the field.

After a brief introduction by University of Chicago Director of Dance Julia Rhoads, this special event will begin with an Chicago Dance History Project (CDHP)-curated video that showcases each decade of Hall’s career, followed by a conversation about his living legacy with CDHP Executive and Artistic Director Jenai Cutcher, JHDC Artistic Director Jacqueline Sinclair and Hall.

—”History in the Making: An Archival Collaboration Between Chicago Dance History Project and Joel Hall Dancers & Center” will take place Saturday, April 20, 6-7 p.m., at the Joel Hall Dancers & Center, 5965 N. Clark St.

This event will be a conversation featuring Cutcher, Hall and Sinclair about the creative process of building and expanding a living dance database—namely, the Joel Hall Dancers Legacy Archive.
