Norma McCorvey, the anonymous plaintiff in the landmark Roe v. Wade case, came out against abortion in 1995, stunning the world—but a deathbed documentary reveals that she only switched sides for money, The Chicago Tribune reported.
McCorvey says in a documentary filmed in the months before her death in 2017 that she only did it because she was paid by anti-abortion groups including Operation Rescue.
The documentary includes scenes of McCorvey on election night 2016—a few months before she died of heart failure at age 69— expressing her support for Hillary Clinton. “I wish I knew how many abortions Donald Trump was responsible for,” McCorvey muses. “I’m sure he’s lost count, if he can count that high.”
Director Nick Sweeney said McCorvey recounted details of her difficult upbringing and personal life, including a short-lived teenage marriage and a long-term relationship with girlfriend Connie Gonzalez.
