Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the city will keep the current indoor dining limits at restaurants in place even if the state allows the city to loosen capacity rules Feb. 2, The Chicago Tribune reported.

The mayor released a statement Jan. 29 praising Chicago’s decreasing COVID-19 numbers, but said it is too soon to increase capacity at bars and restaurants.

Under state rules, Chicago must reduce its test positivity rate to 6.5% or less for three consecutive days before it can use looser rules. Jan. 29 was the first day the city was under 6.5%.

Under the current rules, indoor dining and indoor events are limited to 25% capacity or 25 people per space.
