Association of Latinos/as/xs Motivating Action (ALMA) co-founder and Board President Julio Rodriguez announced that, after more than 30 years as a volunteer-led organization, it will be hiring its first full-time executive director.

In an open letter, Rodriguez said, “This next step in our journey marks a major milestone in our work to bring attention to the unique and growing needs of the Latinx LGBTQ+ community. Our hope is that the leader who assumes this critical role will build off the decades of hard work and progress made by our many dedicated volunteers, and that they will expand our reach to impact and serve our community throughout Illinois and beyond.”

ALMA was founded in 1989 as the Association of Latino Men for Action during the AIDS epidemic to meet the needs of and provide a culturally competent safe space for gay, bisexual, queer, and questioning Latino men. In 2012, ALMA formally changed its name to the Association of Latinos/as/x Motivating Action and revised its mission to promote inclusivity and serve the broader lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender and gender nonconforming Latinx community.

The organization will be accepting applications through March 15; email president@almachicago.org. For more on the duties and qualifications, visit www.almachicago.org/.
