Joining the orchestra is Senegalese tama talking drum player Massamba Diop, who was recorded in the original movie score, and conductor Emil de Cou.
Audiences can relive the excitement of the 2018 film in which T’Challa (played by the late Chadwick Boseman) becomes king and battles Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan)—all while the Chicago Philharmonic performs Ludwig Goransson’s Oscar- and Grammy-winning score live.
Among other accomplishments, Diop has performed and/or recorded with James Brown, Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, Harry Belafonte and Angelique Kidjo. He has also been part of many major international events like the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony in Oslo and the 2012 Olympics in London; he joined Stevie Wonder in 2009 to perform “Happy Birthday” for Nelson Mandela to close Mandela Day at Radio City Music Hall.
After serving as associate conductor with the National Symphony Orchestra for eight years, de Cou was recently appointed as music director of the Pacific Northwest Ballet, a position he started in 2011.
Tickets start at $79.50 each; visit http://www.msg.com/calendar/the-chicago-theatre-june-2022-marvel-studios-black-panther-in-concert.
