On Aug. 23, the Office of the Chief Judge (OCJ) was notified by Google that the OCJ’s YouTube accounts, used to provide public access to court proceedings, will be restored after being temporarily disabled last week.
As of the afternoon of Aug. 23, YouTube had restored some channels, including Pretrial Division (bond court) courtroom 100 in the Leighton Criminal Courthouse, which will be streaming Wed., Aug. 24. The OCJ is working with YouTube to restore the remaining channels.
On Aug. 19, the OCJ was notified by Google that the OCJ’s YouTube accounts, used to provide public access to court proceedings, had been disabled due to unspecified violations of unspecified YouTube Community Guidelines.
The OCJ was not aware of any particular instance that would have precipitated the action, but understands that court proceedings are sometimes graphic in nature and not suitable for all audiences.
The OCJ filed an appeal of the decision with YouTube and has been told to expect a response within two business days.
