Experts shared information about the latest strategies to help elderly people who have HIV/AIDS and explained the unique challenges these people face, including stigma, mental health issues and social isolation, according to a news release about the event.
Lisa L. Barnes, a professor at Rush University Medical, spoke about the comorbidities among older adults with HIV/AIDS and how the disease can impact people’s cognitive abilities. She offered strategies to enhance brain health and prevent cognitive decline.
Margaret Danilovich, an assistant professor at Northwestern University, gave a presentation about the ways physical activity can improve the quality of life of those living with HIV/AIDS.
Other discussions included the lived experiences of elders living with HIV/AIDS, how the disease can impact cancer and strategies for making healthcare more accessible, affirming and reliable for everyone.
