U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor dismissed a challenge to Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law on technical grounds, per The Bay Area Reporter.
The ruling took place Sept. 29.
Winsor, a Donald Trump appointee, dismissed the suit that was filed in March, immediately after the Parental Rights in Education measure (HB 1557) was passed. Windsor determined that the plaintiffs had no standing and could not demonstrate there had been actual injuries as a result of the law.
The LGBTQ-advocacy groups Equality Florida and Family Equality, students, parents and teachers filed the lawsuit in March and an amended version in May, according to WUSF Public Media. The lawsuit alleged, in part, that the law violated First Amendment and due-process rights.
