Mayor Brandon Johnson has named Chasse Rehwinkel comptroller for the City of Chicago.

The comptroller is tasked with the collection or disbursement of city revenues and all funds required to be in the custody of the city treasurer.

“I’m proud to welcome Chasse Rehwinkel as comptroller, and I am confident that he will provide effective, transparent leadership and responsible management of City revenues,” said Johnson in a statement. “His extensive experience in government finance will help create a stronger economic future for all Chicagoans and communities.”

Prior to this role, Rehwinkel was director of banking for the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. He has also served as the chief economist and director of the Bond Division for the Illinois Office of Comptroller, where he worked on issues of state liquidity, public budgeting, debt issuance and access to capital.

Rehwinkel was also a general assignment reporter for Windy City Times in 2009 and 2010.
