On Aug. 18, the Chicago Sky lost to the Phoenix Mercury 86-68 inside Footprint Center on Aug. 18.
The Sky fell to 11-16 on the season. In losing, the Sky’s missed 14 three-pointers without a make—a franchise record.
However, Chicago player Angel Reese had a career game, snaring a career-high 20 rebounds to go along with 19 points. Her 20 rebounds are tied for the most by a player this season (as Las Vegas’s A’ja Wilson recorded 20 against Seattle on July 10) and the Sky/Mercury game marked Reese’s first 20-rebound game.
In setting that record, Reese passed WNBA icons Candace Parker, Breanna Stewart and Yolanda Griffith on the WNBA’s all-time rookie rebounds list. Reese is now third on that list.
Diana Taurasi led the Mercury in scoring with 23 points while Brittney Griner added 18.
The Sky will travel again on Saturday, Aug. 23, to take on the Connecticut Sun at Mohegan Sun Arena at 6:30 p.m. CT. Chicago will then play the Las Vegas Aces at the Windy City’s Wintrust Arena on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m. CT.
